Sicily is not a destination you pass through. It is a place that accumulates, ruin by ruin, town by town, flavor by flavor, until it becomes something you carry home with you. The largest island in the Mediterranean is also one of its most layered: Greek temples older than the Colosseum, Baroque cities carved from honey-colored stone, Arab-Norman cathedrals that blend three civilizations into one ceiling, and an active volcano that reminds you, daily, that this island was born from fire.

Mi Bella Mondo’s Sicily journey goes beyond the monuments. We walk through the markets where Palermo’s daily life unfolds in color and noise. We tasted chocolate in Modica made the same way the Aztecs made it: no sugar, no heat, just pure cacao ground with spices. We stand at the Valley of the Temples at Agrigento and realize that ancient Greece was not just in Greece. We ascend Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano, by 4×4 jeep to 3,000 meters of black lava and wide craters and views that stretch to the Ionian coast.

What a Sicily journey looks like

Catania - City of Lava and Baroque

Sicily’s most vibrant city, built entirely from black volcanic lava stone after the catastrophic 1693 earthquake. A UNESCO World Heritage Site where Baroque architecture rises from dark streets, fish markets roar with life at dawn, and granita with brioche is the only acceptable breakfast.

Syracuse & Ortigia: Where Greece meets the Mediterranean

One of the greatest Greek cities of the ancient world. The Archaeological Park of Neapolis contains a Greek theater that could seat 15,000 and still hosts performances today. Ortigia, the ancient island at the heart of Syracuse, a labyrinth of elegant squares, sea views, and medieval architecture.

Noto: The most beautiful Baroque town in the world

Noto is not a city. It is a stage set. After the 1693 earthquake destroyed everything, the entire town was rebuilt in golden limestone in a single architectural style, Sicilian Baroque, creating what UNESCO calls one of the outstanding examples of late Baroque art and architecture.

Valley of the Temples | Agrigento

One of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the Mediterranean and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Seven Doric temples, some more intact than anything surviving in Greece itself, rise from a ridge above the sea. Walking among them at the hour when the light turns golden is to understand what civilization once was in this part of the world.

Palermo: Where Cultures Collide

The island’s vibrant capital is unlike any other Italian city. Arab-Norman palaces. Byzantine mosaics. Spanish Baroque churches. Street markets, Ballarò and Il Capo, where vendors have been selling the same things in the same way for a thousand years. Palermo street food is a culture of its own: arancini, stigghiola, and sfincione.

Cefalù: Seaside Town with a Norman Soul

One of the most beautiful seaside towns in Sicily. A Norman cathedral that rises dramatically from the rock above the town. Narrow medieval streets. Beaches where the Tyrrhenian Sea is the precise color of postcards. The perfect place to breathe before the final stretch.

Taormina: The Most Iconic Town in Sicily

Perched on a cliff above the Ionian Sea with Mount Etna on the horizon, Taormina has been drawing travelers since the 19th century. Its ancient Greek theater is still hosting performances and is spectacularly set between sea and sky. Corso Umberto, the town’s main street, is a procession of boutiques, cafés, and panoramic terraces.

From the northern slope, an optional 4×4 jeep ascent takes you to 3,000 meters, into dramatic volcanic landscapes of black lava fields, wide craters, and views that stretch across the Ionian coast. Later, descend to one of Etna’s most celebrated wineries, where volcanic soil produces wines of remarkable character.

Each day unfolds across Uganda’s most spectacular landscapes—from urban Kampala to the remote forests of Bwindi. Below is a brief narrative of your journey.

Day 1 - Welcome to Sicily | Catania

Arrival at Catania Airport, where you will be warmly welcomed and transferred to the heart of the city. The first day is intentionally designed with flexibility and comfort in mind. After checking into your charming hotel in the historic center, enjoy a welcome cocktail in the vibrant heart of Catania, followed by dinner in a traditional Sicilian trattoria to begin your connection with the island’s rich flavors.

Day 2 - Catania & Syracuse | Between Local Life and Timeless Beauty

Begin the morning with a walk through Catania’s traditional market, enjoying a typical Sicilian pastry or artisan granita. In the afternoon, depart for Syracuse to visit the Archaeological Park of Neapolis, a testament to the island’s Greek heritage. Conclude the day in Ortigia, Syracuse’s old town, where elegant squares and sea views create an unforgettable Mediterranean atmosphere.

Day 3 - Noto, Modica & Ragusa | The Baroque Soul

Explore Noto, a UNESCO World Heritage site and a masterpiece of Sicilian Baroque architecture. Continue to Modica for a unique chocolate tasting experience before arriving in Ragusa Ibla, a remarkable hilltop town of noble palaces and scenic lanes. In the afternoon, the journey continues toward Agrigento.

Day 4 - Agrigento & Countryside Experience | Palermo

Discover the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, one of the most extraordinary archaeological sites in the Mediterranean. As you travel toward Palermo, enjoy a special stop at a countryside farm for a tasting of artisanal yogurt and award-winning cheeses, offering a genuine experience of Sicily’s agricultural excellence.

Day 5 - Monreale & Palermo | Vibrant Layers

Visit the magnificent Monreale Cathedral, celebrated for its extraordinary golden mosaics. In Palermo, a guided visit will reveal the city’s layered identity through its historic streets and iconic landmarks. The experience includes a walk through a historic market (like Ballarò) for a tasting of authentic Palermo street food.

Day 6 - Cefalù & Taormina | Seaside Charm

Depart for Cefalù, one of Sicily’s most beautiful seaside towns, to explore its Norman Cathedral and picturesque streets. Continue the journey toward Taormina, stopping at a traditional ceramics workshop if time permits. Upon arrival in Taormina, visit the famous Ancient Theatre, spectacularly set between the sea and sky.

Day 7 - Etna Adventure & Taormina Finale

Devote the day to Mount Etna, Europe’s highest active volcano. Experience the dramatic volcanic landscapes before descending to a renowned winery for a volcanic wine tasting and light lunch. Return to Taormina for a final stroll along Corso Umberto, enjoying its boutiques and panoramic terraces.

Day 8 - Ciao Sicilia

After one last breakfast with the scent of orange blossoms, enjoy a final morning breathing in the sea breeze or exploring a historic market. You will then be escorted comfortably to the airport, leaving with a heart full of Mediterranean warmth and a suitcase full of stories.

Activity Level: Moderate – Active (Level 2 of 5)

Travelers should be comfortable walking several hours on uneven surfaces, cobblestones, ancient stone paths, and steps inside archaeological sites and historic towns. No strenuous hiking required. All transportation is by air-conditioned private vehicle throughout.

Historic Town Walks

Significant walking on uneven stone and cobblestone surfaces. Comfortable footwear essential. Noto, Ragusa Ibla, Palermo, Taormina, and Cefalù all involve 1–3 hours of walking.

Archaeological Sites

The Valley of the Temples involves walking on uneven ground across a wide site. Monreale Cathedral requires climbing steps. Comfortable shoes with grip required.

Mount Etna

A 4x4 jeep ascent to 3,000 meters is optional. The volcanic landscape at altitude involves uneven lava terrain. Warm layers required, temperature drops significantly at elevation.

Markets

Catania and Palermo's historic markets involve crowded, lively, uneven street surfaces. Part of the experience, but good shoes and awareness are recommended.

Travel Days

Some long drives on paved roads between cities, typically 2–4 hours. Air-conditioned private vehicles throughout.
